The anchor of the Golden Horseshoe (a region encompassing the west-end of Lake Ontario and with 26& of the entirety of the national population), Toronto can be found on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. Raised atop an inclined plateau, the lively city is divided by numerous rivers, vast ravines, and forest.
Proud of its continually growing diversity, Toronto’s multicultural population illustrates how integral a landing spot it’s been for those immigrating to Canada throughout its relatively young history. 50% of those living in the area weren’t born in the country, as the city boasts 200 different ethnicities amongst its fantastical melting pot of a population, speaking 140 separate dialects although English is still the primary language.
Similar to what Los Angeles is to the USA, Toronto is Canada’s “it” spot for the entertainment industry—from the music that tops the charts to the next box office cinematic masterpiece. If you have more sophisticated tastes, Toronto is a hotbed for theatre. Also, it’s the home of all of the nation’s prominent national broadcast networks and other media outlets.
Culture is one of the signature attractions and reason 25 million-plus tourists come every single year to take in what Canada’s most powerhouse city has to offer. Whether you want to take in museums, galleries, entertainment districts, festivals, and sporting events, Toronto is ripe with all of these engaging activities.
The architecture is breathtaking, rich with skyscrapers and high-rise structures, most specifically the CN Tower—a building world famous for being the tallest single-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere.
Home to the Toronto stock exchange, the city is undeniably the commercial capital of the country. Not only can you find the headquarters of the nation’s five biggest banks, but it’s also host to the headquarters of a variety of national and multinational corporations. A fiscal powerhouse, Toronto’s economy is wonderfully diverse, best known for technology, design, financial services, life sciences, education, arts, fashion, business services, environmental innovation, transportation, food services, and tourism.
Perched atop the list of World Leaders in the Global Financial Centres Index, Toronto is widely considered one of the most desirable cities in the world to live in.
